Project Tabby | Traffic
Where the F.J. Torras Causeway lands on St. Simons, island traffic loops a one-way triangle with a single signal, at Sea Island and Demere roads. The county's design makes the triangle two-way, with a roundabout at each corner.
Today's roads, lane counts and one-way directions are from OpenStreetMap. The county has described its design but has not published a drawing of it. The roundabout positions here are estimated from county and engineering documents and could be 30 to 60 meters off; lane counts and turn lanes are placeholders until the plans are posted.
In March 2025 the board was shown three roundabouts at $15 to 17 million, against a displaced left-turn design at $11 to 13 million. The 2022 SPLOST line for the Gateway and causeway is $13.99 million. The county's tracker says stamped plans were finished September 30, 2026, with bids to be advertised in late October.
Cars and signal timing are illustrative and sped up. They are not traffic counts or the county's traffic model.
